Our Story

The House of Satin

An obsession born in the mountains of Savoie. Silk selected in Suzhou. An uncompromising commitment to quality.

Founded with excellence

An awakening, in the face of the elements

La Maison du Satin was born from a brutal, daily confrontation: living year-round in a ski resort in the Savoie Alps, facing icy winds, biting cold, and the dry mountain air. This weather attacks the skin and weakens the hair. And a simple observation: no product on the market was up to the task.

The founder's story

The mountains as a catalyst for self-discovery

Originally from Belgium, our founder spent a large part of his life in France, in the heart of the Savoie mountains, where he worked on the ski resort. Living and working year-round in this magnificent environment means constantly confronting the elements. This is where the central question arose: how to protect skin and hair fiber overnight, after entire days spent at high altitudes?

Faced with this concrete need for a protective and ultra-high-quality product, silk was the answer. Its unique properties in terms of thermal regulation, preservation of skin hydration, and protection of hair fiber make it the most effective material for nightly recovery.

Finding no product capable of meeting this level of requirement, the decision was made: to create what was missing.

The traditional market offered only superficial alternatives, without real guarantees of origin or purity. Our founder therefore decided to create a silk brand of absolute quality, designed as the ultimate haven for recovery after intense days.

The Truth About Silk

Why China? A choice for truth.

For the average person, the label "Made in China" evokes mass production. But for silk, the historical and technical reality is quite different. China doesn't just produce silk: it invented it over 4,000 years ago. It was antiquity's best-kept secret, giving its name to the mythical Silk Road.

For this particular textile, the best global expertise is not found in Europe. Wanting to source exceptional mulberry silk from anywhere other than China would be the equivalent of trying to produce a Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux outside of France's great wine-growing regions. It's a matter of a unique climate, ideal for mulberry cultivation, and a thousand-year-old weaving heritage passed down from generation to generation.

A expertise that no modern Western machine can replicate. We chose authenticity, not marketing convenience.

At the heart of global expertise

The Suzhou Obsession

Our founder flatly refused to select fabrics from a catalogue or negotiate remotely. He travelled in person to the historical capital of this expertise: Suzhou. Known as the "Venice of the East", it has been the nerve centre of imperial silk for centuries, where emperors' robes were woven.

Once there, we were fully immersed. Weeks were spent visiting a large number of factories, analyzing weaving methods, inspecting the quality of long 6A Grade mulberry silk threads, and comparing textures by touch. Dozens of potential partners were rejected, leaving only the crème de la crème of the industry.

Today, La Maison du Satin collaborates exclusively with prestigious workshops in Suzhou that discreetly supply the greatest international haute couture and luxury brands. It is this standard of excellence, validated on site, that is now made available to our customers.

A deliberate choice

We chose the most difficult name

Satin? In the popular imagination, it's the shiny, slippery sheet of cheap hotels, the synthetic fabric that wrinkles in five minutes. We knew that when we chose the name. And we chose it anyway, because the truth deserved to be restored.

What the world believes

Satin, a cheap material

For decades, the textile industry has massively substituted silk with polyester in satin weaves. The result: uncomfortable, non-breathable, non-durable synthetic sheets. And a word, "satin," emptied of its original meaning.

Historical reality

Satin, a technique invented for silk

Satin is not a material: it's a weaving technique. It was invented specifically to work with silk, to maximize its luster, softness, and protective properties. It's the combination of the two that produces all the benefits. One without the other doesn't work.

Educating our customers about this reality is part of our daily mission. Because behind the name La Maison du Satin lies a conviction: to put words back in their rightful place, and to restore silk to its original nobility.

Our Fundamental Commitments

Product over Profit

Ensuring the best product on the market requires disrupting classic e-commerce economic rules. Our investment is massively reinvested in raw materials rather than in margins.

GOTS Certified

Global biological traceability

Our fabrics are GOTS—Global Organic Textile Standard certified (License No. GOTS-29810, certified by COTECNA): 100% organic silk, grown without pesticides, in strict compliance with social and ecological criteria.

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100

Uncompromising health standards

Our products are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified (No. 21.HCN.67919), guaranteeing the complete absence of harmful chemical substances. Our workshops are ISO 9001:2015 audited and RoHS compliant.

22 Momme 6A Grade Silk

Substance, not margins

Traditional luxury applies disproportionate markups. We've taken the opposite approach: reduced margins, maximum investment in 22 momme mulberry silk, selected for its exceptional density and longevity.

Sustainable logistics

The Low-Carbon Challenge

We made a radical choice: to ban air transport as much as possible, as it has a disastrous carbon footprint. To transport our collections from Suzhou, we exclusively prioritize the least polluting modes of transport on the planet.

Maritime

Main supply route. Longer lead time, incomparably lower carbon footprint compared to air freight.

Ferroviaire

The Modern Silk Road. The train connects Suzhou to Europe via Central Asia: understated, reliable, consistent with our values.

This ethical choice is a daily challenge. Opting for sea and rail means accepting longer transport times and dealing with geopolitical uncertainties. We prefer to manage complex inventories rather than sacrifice our convictions for speed.

An inspiration born from the oceans

Today, from the deck of a sailboat

La Maison du Satin is a vibrant brand, constantly evolving. Today, the team and its founder manage and develop the company from all over the world, directly from the deck of a sailboat.

This nomadic and maritime way of life is no accident. Long-distance sailing means learning to live with the bare essentials, respecting the power of nature, and striving for refined performance. It is through our journeys on the water, our stopovers, and facing the immensity of the ocean, that we draw new inspiration for future collections.

The boat is our ideas laboratory: a space of complete freedom where we design exceptional products, tested by the power of the spray and designed to offer you, wherever you are, the absolute comfort of a haven of peace.
